Room For A Wiki?

The wiki has been around for several years now and represents a collaborative website that enables users (any user or a select group of users) to add, edit, remove, and generally administer the pages of that website. It is very easy to manipulate the data of a website in this way, and so wikis have become a widely used and extremely beneficial form of collaborative tool but they aren't the ideal choice for every project.

A wiki has the primary advantage of being quick and easy. Using a unique style of tagging its possible to add new pages, link to existing ones, and quickly note down or elaborate on any topic. The content written can be formal for those that will be published on the Internet for all to access or informal when used as a collaborative tool to assist in the management and development of projects.

When it comes to web design, adding a wiki to cover a particular topic of your website is a superb way of getting visitors involved. The more involved they get, the more they will feel a part of your site and you will often be left counting the financial rewards of this perceived level of involvement.

A lot of visitors to a site on a specific topic will have some level of knowledge of that topic. A wiki really comes into its own in these instances and they are largely self governing although it may certainly pay dividends to have editors look after the overall changes that are made to prevent the addition of unwanted text.
