How A CMS Can Increase Efficiency

May 21st, 2010 by

Adding a CMS (Content Management System) to a website can be an extremely useful, and even an essential move, especially if the site’s users need to be able to change the content themselves. To make the web development professional’s task easier, there are even a number of ready-made CMS software options, some of them free.

A CMS does what the name suggests, in that it allows data to be managed efficiently. Writers create their content and upload it to the system where, if required, there may be an opportunity for managers to approve it before the text is displayed within a template page. The use of templates means that the overall web design remains consistent even though the content is fluid. Alternatively, the fact that content and style are completely separate can allow different page templates to be served up to different viewers, adding an element of personalisation to a site.

Normally, when creating a website, knowledge of HTML is required in order to place content within the page. One advantage of a CMS is that it allows users to add their content without using HTML at all (although there may be a limited number of features allowing some formatting of text). Once content has been placed in the system, it can easily be made available for sharing; for example, using what is called an RSS link, automated ‘feedreaders’ can check for new blog posts and download them for interested followers. At Click Consult, we can supply the right CMS for your internet marketing needs.
