Avoiding Web Design Tricks

November 14th, 2008 by

It seems that wherever there is money to be spent, there are schemes and websites selling tricks or short cuts to success. Online marketing and web design and development are areas that are particularly prone to these tips but, unfortunately, many of the web design tips that are employed fail to make the grade and will more often than not deter or detract from the overall value of a website and the content that it offers to visitors. Avoiding these tips, then, is important to the success of your website.

It's important to differentiate between design tips or shortcuts and techniques. Design techniques are usually well researched and thoroughly tested having shown excellent results for those websites that employ their use. In contrast, tips and shortcuts are methods that are usually marketed as offering a quicker route to success or some inflated conversion rate or other website performance measurable. As the old adage goes, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

Web design requires the implementation of strict, compliant coding. This helps ensure that all potential visitors are able to open your web pages and view your web content. Some of the less ethical design tips that you should avoid rely on poor coding and may even leave your site prone to outside attack or blacklisting from the search engines. Other design tips, while not strictly unethical, can simply be ineffective. Lurid colours, the improper use of banners and even bad colour combinations can lead to a massive bounce rate that no website will benefit from.

Stick to web 2.0 standards and we’ll have a better web world that everyone from website designers and web users/browsers can appreciate it. Also black hat SEO is still prevalent but with so many checks and balances in place by the major search engines its almost futile to even attempt them. Good old fashioned white hat techniques with some social media marketing is the best bet as far as getting your website traffic and better rankings.

In the marketing the site should be well managed and effective in look and feel and making more convenient for users there should be search box for searching the products or services from your sites.

If your sites are designed well, attractive and time consuming for users the site can become successful in the internet marketing and affiliate marketing; avoid all those which push away your customer from your site.

  4. The success of business websites does not depend only on design but also on effective search engine optimization. As we all know 60-70% of conversion rates are generated through search engines.
