2 Golden Rules of Web Design

September 25th, 2008 by

When it comes to any form web design and web development, you should always consider two things: 1) usability and ease of navigation for the average visitor and 2) the appearance and layout of the website. With your online advertising efforts, you will be directing – and often paying for – traffic to your website and you want to give yourself the best possible chance of getting some business from this traffic, whether that be an e-commerce transaction of a product or an enquiry about a service. In web design, first impressions always count. When a user lands on your site, it needs to grab their attention and immediately pique their interest. This is especially important when you operate in a competitive arena and the customer is likely to browse and compare websites. Your website may be chosen because of factors like price, but it may also be settled upon because it is more aesthetically pleasing than the others. Once you have snared a visitor and they are taking the time to explore the site, it would be criminal to lose that visitor because they cannot easily and quickly find what they are looking for and because they get lost several pages into the site. The golden rule of web design is to display everything you offer as simply as possible. Everything needs to clearly categorised as if you were obsessive compulsive who must have everything in exactly the right place. If a 4 year old cannot navigate around your website then it just isn’t good enough.
