Much has been reported of late on the increasing trend towards people using social media websites in a more constant way. Recent independent studies have provided some thought-provoking stats on the usage of these sites. Retrevo Gadgetology carried out a survey with 1000 users asking when and where they used these sites and what they find social media most useful for. The figures showed that 16 per cent of the under-25’s surveyed and a further 15 per cent of the over-25’s confirmed that they use social media sites to get news updates in the morning. If this trend continues then we will start to see a shift in how morning news is delivered as a rule.
A study looking at iPhone users revealed that they were very active on the social media sites throughout the day. The reasons for this were suggested as being due to the ease of use for mobile devices using these applications. However regardless of motivations this group of internet users are extremely active on these types of sites and when developing an internet marketing strategy it would be prudent to keep this in mind. Social media continues to develop and it would be beneficial to businesses to keep apace of the changing trends.
