Weaving Major Keyword Phrases Into Blogs

February 11th, 2010 by

As part of your search marketing and search engine optimisation campaign, you keep a steady flow of new articles and informative blogs uploading to your website.  You have a detailed list of keywords with a top list of major ones that apply to the site as a whole.  Now, the question is how do you successfully weave these into your blog articles?

Long tail key phrases and major keywords

To begin with, it makes sense to differentiate between the long tail key phrases and the major, traffic-generating keywords which apply to the homepage, for example.

The major key phrases you choose are likely to have two to three words in them and should be references to your products and services in a direct way.  However long tail key phrases should be less obviously connected to services and products and will be the types of phrases for which you don’t specifically optimise your site for, but do show up in the search results that refer to your site.

Applying major keywords to blogs

You don’t need to use the major keywords in the blogs on your site.  Although you will have optimised the site as a whole for these phrases, the blogs are a supplement to that.  These major keywords will turn up in the writing naturally if you are sticking to topics that are relevant.  If an individual article doesn’t contain many of them then there is no cause for concern.  Blogs should largely be focused on interesting users.
