Your SEO can be significantly affected by your website's domain name.  If the site address is simply your company name then you need to work harder to link in the main keywords on the site to the pages within.  If the keywords are positioned at the level of your domain you can find it easier to get the site ranked.

It is a challenge finding the best domain name.  More often than not the one you want is already taken.  If you want one that matches a keyword exactly you will need to do some bartering with the current owner which can become expensive.  Not all businesses have the budget to do this but there are other options:

Rework the domain name

If you can’t get the domain you want then you can achieve one that is nearly as good.  Put together a list of possible domain names that you would be happy with before you start as this can make the process quicker and easier.  Here are some points to remember:

Keep domains short.  Longwinded domains will be difficult for users to remember and also type in accurately.

Focus on your SEO keywords.  Aim to have at least one keyword in the domain name.  At this level a keyword can make search engine optimisation much easier.  Make sure it’s a keyword that will be used in the longer term.

Keep things memorable
.  The site address is the first indicator of the company’s identity.  If the domain doesn’t relate to your business they will quickly click away.
