The Changing Face Of Internet Marketing
December 18th, 2009 by Nick
On a daily basis you will find yourself typing a variety of searches into search engines. Throughout the course of a week the types of searches you make will vary dramatically, and if you take time to observe other people, the difference in search ‘styles’ can be readily seen. However we all do one thing in common when searching and it is a growing trend – we are starting to use longer searches in the search box. For website owners this means that searches of just one or two words are a thing of the past and it is time to re-evaluate your SEO. There are many reasons for this.
As the amount of time that we spend on the internet grows year on year, people are getting more specific with their searches. People have cottoned on to the fact that using a one or two word search will not get the refined results we need. If you use a couple of words to search for something then often you have to search again to narrow down the results. Often you will find yourself typing an actual question into the search box or a full sentence to see what results are generated.
A survey carried out by Hitwise recently found that long search queries of five words or more had increased significantly at the beginning of the year and that the trend was increasing.
