The Benefits of Comments
October 16th, 2009 by Dan Taylor
Here at Click Consult we often recommend, when looking at search engine optimisation, integrating blogs with the website to increase your rankings. The benefits of blogs on websites are well known, but how much do you know about the wisdom of allowing people to post comments?
You may find this surprising but blog comments can do a great deal to boost your SEO. Here is an overview of why:
The key reason for adding blogs to increase optimisation is to ensure there is fresh content being added on a regular basis to the website. By also allowing people to post comments you are ensuring content is added in another way. If you post a popular blog that creates a healthy debate that is ongoing, the benefits of the one blog are increased significantly. The content-to-code ratio is increased on the page with no effort on your part.
People who comment on a blog are likely to use the keywords that you have used within the post. They will also select other words and phrases that you might have missed therefore improving the probability that you will come up in the SERPs.
By writing high-quality, relevant blogs which encourage your users to interact and take part in discussions, you will engender loyalty and in turn encourage return visits. There may also be links to third party sites published which may be of interest.
A word of caution though…moderate comments to avoid spammers taking advantage.
