Tools Of The Trade

Search engine optimisation not only involves structuring your site well and gathering good quality content. It also involves making sure that content is relevant to the products and services you provide, and that it contains the right keywords to allow search engine spiders to rank your site. If you want a high page ranking for specific search terms then you need to check that you are using keywords appropriately. If the incidence is too high in proportion to the content, then your site may be penalised, too low and you won’t see your site up there in the realms of page one.
One way to minimise the risk of being penalised for using the same keywords too often, is to use the range of contextually related words that search engines deem to be relevant to the content of your site. Search engines apply latent semantic indexing or LSI by using a complex mathematical technique to find conceptual relationships between words. You can see the results of LSI in Google by putting the symbol “~” before whatever you enter in the search bar. Related keywords will be highlighted and those are the words Google would see as relevant to the search term. Ensure that your content includes these words and it will be rated more highly in terms of quality.
