Is your SEO working?
July 8th, 2009 by Nick
When a website has been optimised in every possible aspect, the website owner impatiently waits to see the results. Web owners understandably want to see instant results from their Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) efforts and money spent. If they don’t, they immediately assume it is not working. However, SEO is not instant, it does not happen overnight. SEO takes time to be effective, so first of all impatience has to be curbed to allow SEO to work.
If after a few months, you feel that your website is not performing or your web pages are not indexed, it is time to look into the matter. Here again, it does not mean in the least that your SEO efforts are at fault. There are many factors that could be holding your website back and you have to look at each of them.
Checklist
Take a look at your keywords and go over your optimisation of those keywords to make sure they are fully optimised. A sitemap is very important and if you do not have one, this is the first thing to rectify. Next, take a look at your link building efforts. It is important to get good inbound links as the search engines look for inbound links. Check over your code and look at the amount of code you are using.
For instance, a website that is nearly completely in Flash are extremely code poor.
Flash does not get indexed. If you use a template for your website, check the template files as there could be an SEO problem there. Make sure that you are targeting the correct keywords and that you are targeting the right audience. Your SEO cannot succeed if there are other problems, it all has to mesh. The best way to sort out your website optimisation is to bring in a professional SEO company to do all the hard work for you.
