Is social media pushing SEO out?

May 13th, 2009 by

Economic times are tough and that means that everyone is feeling the pinch. Nobody is exempt from the global financial crisis that has hit the world economy. This means that even thriving businesses are feeling the effects. Everyone, including business giants, are cutting corners and cutting back wherever possible.

They are also trying to keep themselves out there and in the public eye in hopes of making money to keep thriving or to stay afloat. So where does this leave your Search Engine Optimisation efforts in light of the social networking media quandary. The same social networking media that everyone else is so caught up in too.

Socialising and SEO

Social media as a marketing tool is a great plan. However, social media marketing in favour of neglecting your SEO efforts is a bad idea. Take the example of blogging. Blogging is one of the most popular and fastest growing social media networking methods available online. Blogging is a great way to connect with customers, prospects and your target market in general.

But if you do not optimize your blog it won’t be visible to all the people you want to reach out to. Optimization still needs to happen and your social media marketing should support your SEO efforts. Your SEO should not be the supporting act to your socialising. A great way to ensure that you get the balance right is to bring in a reputable SEO company to give you the greatest chance of moving up the rankings.

In the long run you need SEO to make your marketing efforts visible. You also need to include great marketing to back-up your SEO. They work hand in hand and if you want to play a little favouritism, make sure you favour your SEO.
