Why your site isn’t attracting links

August 5th, 2009 by

Internet marketing takes on so many different shapes and forms, it can seem overwhelming to keep track of it all. Perhaps the most influential aspect of internet marketing is SEO (search engine optimisation) and vital to the success of your SEO campaign is the process of link building.

When you build links with other websites, it not only increases your visibility and web presence. It also boosts your search engine optimisation campaign as a whole. However, you may find link building more difficult than you anticipated. One of the reasons why could be your website. Nobody wants to link up with an irrelevant website, or one which is spammy, poorly designed or is difficult to navigate around.

Link building is a popularity contest

Link building is essentially a popularity contest on a vast scale. The more traffic you receive and the more popular your website is, the more attention you will receive as a link interest. In order to be popular enough to attract links from other websites you need to impress others.

The others you need to impress are the people in your target audience and the websites you want to link to you.

What people find dull and boring is entirely up to their own personal taste. However, personal tastes form trends in target markets and as such, you need to captivate yours, catch their interest and give them a reason to keep coming back. Make sure that they find your website interesting, fun and high quality. Your SEO success through link building depends on how useful your site is.

  1. Thank you for the post. Link building process should be well thought. Not all the sites are worth to get links from. Links from bad sites will most likely hurt the website’s reputation. I’ve been doing some SEO for our company’s website and I used the directory submission, article submission and blog commenting most. With the use of automatic submission tools, directory submission, article submission and blog commenting are made quick and easy.
