Check All Of Your Links Regularly For Good SEO

September 15th, 2008 by

Links are the blood of any SEO campaign and while we typically talk about inbound links because of the weight that search engines place on them, your other links are important too. Linking out to less than desirable sites, or bad neighbourhoods is not viewed kindly by the search engines and can virtually halt your SEO campaign before it begins.

Internal linking is also important, providing navigation to your human visitors and to the spiders that search engines use to crawl your site. As such, broken links and links to error pages can be extremely damaging without the proper backups in place. A spider will instinctively stop once it reaches a broken link and visitors are more likely to exit your pages.

Regularly check the links on every page of your site as part of an SEO campaign. Check that outbound links still direct to high quality pages and that the resulting pages haven't become less desirable. Also ensure that the resulting pages are relevant to the topic of your site and to the link itself.

Check internal links to ensure that they aren't directed to deleted or moved pages and, if they are, change the links or use redirects appropriately. Checking links doesn't have to be a laborious, manual task. Software does exist that will check each link on the pages of a domain to ensure that they are still active and therefore not hindering your SEO efforts in any way.

Reciprocal linking is a process and it helped many people to be able to gain SEO ground within the various search engines. But his pattern of linking was also very easy to exploit and many websites overdid the process until it became almost the useless.

Search engines put very little value on a reciprocal link but that doesn’t mean that it has no value whatsoever. It should still hold a position in your SEO efforts that you make to get listed on a variety of different websites. Links are the part of your SEO campaign.

Organic Search Engine Optimization is a slow and steady part of Internet Marketing that achieves the high status of search engines. Link Campaigns focus on the quality contents of Web Links and always check the guidelines of search engines and search queries are performed by SEO Companies.

[...] Filed under: General Industry Blogs by Nick @ 9:41 am The common impression is that if your website has developed a bad reputation you can fix it fast if you buy a second domain name and start over with a pristine reputation. If your website has incurred penalties for buying and/or selling links, doing a 301 redirect won’t help. You may have gotten a bad reputation because of unsavoury inbound links. [...]
