Make Clear The SEO Terms
May 19th, 2010 by Nick
In the SEO industry there are many terms used as reference points and when you are new to search engine optimisation this can be very confusing. In relation to the things that can potentially damage the website you need to understand what people mean. You only have to scrape the surface of SEO before you hit mention of search engine penalties for example. Although they are rarely talked about in tangible terms – and most SEO people will struggle to define one or what causes them – you still need to be aware of what could cause your site to suddenly be removed from the index or do take a sharp dive in the page rankings. Both could be influenced by your SEO efforts so you need to decipher the SEO industry terms.
Sandboxing – most SEO professionals believe that Google will sandbox a site when sorting its references out. In this period the site will not be ranked and this can be a common occurrence with new sites. Older sites may be sandboxed when they break the rules.
Dropped rankings – if your rankings plummet you’ve been penalised. It can sometimes be a challenge to get to the bottom of why. It can be an idea to analyse the site fort defect using Webmaster Tools in Google.
Reinclusion – As and when you fix problems that have resulted in your site dropping from the index you need to speak to the search engines for reinclusion.
