What Is Organic SEO?

August 21st, 2008 by

Organic SEO is something that is talked about a lot on the Internet. Marketers and website owners are often found lamenting Google search results and damming the algorithm updates. This is because organic SEO is the act of optimising a web page so that it ranks higher in the organic search results. The result, presuming the use of good keywords, is a flood of targeted traffic to a web page.

The term organic search was penned to further differentiate between the natural, unpaid search engine results, and the sponsored or paid listings that appear on search engine results pages. SEO and PPC (Pay Per Click) are both a form of search engine marketing (SEM) but organic SEO does not require payment for each visitor that is directed to your web pages.

When people search using the search engines, they are presented with a list of the most relevant and informative pages, as determined by the search engine. The top few results will inevitably collect the vast majority of clicks from those searches and generate high quality, targeted visitors to that page. This means that those visitors will be inclined to purchase products and services, or click on links and perform other actions while on the site.

Organic SEO, or just SEO, is the act of optimising or improving a page so that it appears higher in the natural search engine results. As a reward for your efforts, your web pages will be populated by active, targeted visitors that have been searching for the very information you are now able to provide them.
