Turn Away From Unethical SEO

January 30th, 2009 by

What is unethical SEO?

Unethical or black hat SEO is the use of techniques that fool the search engine into believing that the website is relevant to the search. Consequently, the website which is seen by the search engine is different to the website seen by humans.

Thus unethical SEO deceives the search engine to achieve better page rankings. Some unethical SEO techniques include keyword stuffing, hidden text and doorway pages.

Why it should be avoided?

If black hat SEO can rake in loads of traffic, why should it be avoided? This is because search engines have bots and other methods to find unethical SEO techniques then your website will be banned.

The reason why they ban you is because you are fooling the search engine into seeing a website that does not appear the way it does to human eyes, thus you are being deceptive (because your website may not be relevant to search terms). Furthermore once your website is banned all the work you put into would then have been wasted. Finally, it is also bad for business reputation and consumer confidence.

How to spot unethical SEO usage

If you decide to use an SEO consultant to help you with your campaign be sure to find one that is reliable. Ensure to monitor his work by watching out for hidden texts, keyword stuffing, redirects and doorway pages usage.

One of the most important things to watch out for is if the consultants promises a top ten placement in a short time, then it is likely he is using unethical methods.
