The Death Of Search Engine Submissions
November 18th, 2008 by Nick
Search engine submissions have long been touted as being a hugely beneficial aspect in SEO and even though many sites still continue trying to deliver this message the truth of the matter is that they offer no real benefit to you or your SEO efforts. They take time or cost money and even if they do result in the indexing of your web page this can be performed quicker and easier by submitting a sitemap or garnering a web page with a single indexed link.
Search engine submissions have never actually offered any benefit to your ranking and have only ever offered a method to get your pages indexed by some of the search engines. The fact that it took search engines like Google many months to respond to an inclusion request meant that even during their heyday search engine submissions were far from being an ideal SEO tool. Now that sitemaps and links can see a site fully and thoroughly indexed within a matter of hours the value has been lessened even further.
The best advice regarding search engine submission is not to bother. If you are concerned about getting your site indexed then add a sitemap and submit that using the Webmaster tools. Alternatively, get a link from another website that has already been indexed by the search engines and wait for the spiders to do the rounds while you continue your other SEO efforts. If you want better rankings improve your on page optimisation and build more links to each of your pages.
