SEO – The Cost Effective Traffic Solution

August 21st, 2008 by

Website traffic is the one thing that all website owners want. More importantly, though, is finding a source of targeted traffic that generates visitors inclined to convert to customers. There are a number of methods regularly employed by websites including paid search listings and organic SEO (search engine optimisation). Both have their advantages and disadvantages over the other, but search engine traffic is usually considered to be highly targeted and extremely cost effective.

Good SEO can generate a large volume of traffic to your website. This traffic has been searching specifically for the kind of information that you offer on your pages making them more inclined to listen to your marketing message and make a purchase or perform some other desirable action.

SEM or PPC advertising requires that you pay a set amount for each of the visitors that happen upon your site. Well managed this can create a good stream of profitable traffic, but it can also require a large outlay before you start to see the desired results.

In comparison, search engine optimisation helps to move your pages up the rankings of organic search results. You don't pay for each individual visitor and a good SEO campaign will often cost considerably less per visitor than SEM and other paid online advertising techniques.

SEO generates targeted traffic and usually at a fraction of the cost of paid advertising techniques. However, the down side is that it can take several weeks or even months before a site really reaps the rewards of a new SEO campaign.
