Organic SEO – Calculating Performance
August 12th, 2009 by Nick
Marketing is often one of the sectors of a company where the return on investment calculation is most difficult to establish. Fortunately SEO offers options that will make this ROI calculation easier, more accurate and ensure that you stay within your set budget. Many SEO consultants offer analytics so you can see which parts of your campaign are working and which may need some tweaking as you go along.
As search engine optimisation is a long-term strategy, just because some sapect of your SEO work isn't providing a great return on investment after 3 months doesn't mean that it never will.
Is it suitable for you?
Your SEO agency should analyse your company’s specific structure and needs and offer advice on the best SEO package for you. This means that your strategy will be tailored to suit your requirements and budget, rather than trying a 'one size fits all' method which doesn't usually make for the most successful SEO campaigns.
How performance is calculated
Different companies will offer different definitions of performance. There are two major methods for determining the success of an SEO campaign. The first method is to look at the rankings on a pre determined list of search engines. You might agree that you need to be in the top 10 listing and only consider this as successful performance. On the other hand, any progress in the right direction up the rankings can be considered successful in that it shows your SEO efforts are making an impact and should continue to bear fruit. The proof of the pudding is always the return on investment though, as this is the reason why you start an SEO campaign. The key is to be patient, as results are usually only seen several months into a campaign.
To good to be true?
There are many SEO packages available if you look around online, some of which offer deceptive guarantees of great results. The fact is that SEO results cannot be 100% guaranteed because internet marketing agencies do not control search engines or their ranking algorithms. However, a good SEO agency will use tried and tested methods which have been proven to get great results for themselves and their other clients, plus they should always be on the ball with any new developments and techniqiues to get your business profile right up there.
