Link Building Strategies

Search engines use a huge number of factors to determine the value of a website for a particular search term. One of the most important and most widely considered is your link profile. This is a measure of the number and quality of links that point to a web page. Once topical relevancy is factored, this is one of the biggest factors used by search engines to rank a web page for a given keyword.

Formulating and executing effective link building strategies needs to be an ongoing and sustained effort. Article marketing, online press releases, directory submissions, and social marketing are among the more effective methods of building those all important links. Link building strategies that have become devalued in recent years include reciprocal links and other automated link programs.

Because the search engines essentially use a measure of your link popularity as being an indication of how useful your site is, they go to a lot of trouble in order to promote organic link building strategies. Organic links are those that have been offered naturally by other, interested Webmasters and these can be incredibly difficult to attain, especially for the new website owner.

Whatever link building strategies you opt for, it's important to try and ensure that all links are search engine friendly. Never link out to undesirable neighbourhoods (spam sites etc...) and remember that if the search engines recognise a link building technique as being done solely for the benefit of their algorithms they may apply a penalty to your page or site.
