Posted in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) by Richard Harrington on 19th of January, 2009

Qualifications are the first steps

Since you are hiring an SEO consultant to help you optimise your campaign, it is important to ensure that they are truly qualified and know what to do. Since you only have a limited time with the interview, be sure to ask for references, testimonials and proof of work done to ensure that his experience is legit.

Impressions

Apart from qualifications, it is important to see what kind of a person your SEO consultant is. Meet them face-to-face and take note of their time of arrival, attire and body language. Did they take the time to prepare this interview? Do they respect this position?

Take note on the way they speak to you and see if you get along. Since you will be working with them it is crucial to recruit someone that you can get along with. Finally, have a look at their response time when you ask them for something (such as an interview date). This should also indicate their efficiency.

What SEO consultants should do?

Perhaps you would want to give your newly selected SEO consultant a test trial. If that is the case make sure to look for the following:

  • Ability to optimise website
  • Ability to research keywords (ones that are commonly used)
  • Make use of ethical SEO methods
  • Able to analyse website traffic and to optimise it further
  • Make use of various SEO tools such as link building and blogging.
