You can use image ads in placements, targeted campaigning and also keyword targeted advertising.
Image ads do not automatically show on all sites on the content network. Sites must opt in to them, and to increase the chances of being allowed in make sure you have text ads for every one.
You can use animated ads for both placement and keyword-targeted campaigning.
Make sure image files are not above 50k.
Image ads can be created both in the Google desktop tool and the Google interface.

Use RGB color format as this is most widely accepted by display devices and some will reject CMYK formats. When it comes to reformatting images it can be a complicated process and you can end up with a broken link instead.
