Google Tops UK Superbrands

February 25th, 2008 by

It has been announced today that Google has topped the UK superbrands list. In a survey of 1,500 people Google came out top in all the brands of the UK.

This is quite and achievement in a list dominated by UK originating brands the US search engine has trumped others such as the BBC, British Airways and Aston Martin.

Of the top 10, Google is the youngest at only 18 years old, with it's inception in 1990. The average age of the top fifty is 90 years old, showing that longevity is important to consumers and to a companies reputation.

The Superbrands are rated on 3 factors relating to quality of service and products, reliability and distinction. Each of which Google has excelled on as a media and advertising brand.

It is worth noting that Microsoft was awarded second place, but rather than being graded as a media and advertising service. Microsoft achieved this as a computer solutions provider. Signalling the void that Microsoft needs to span to really compete in the advertising world.

Yahoo appeared way down the list at 102, just outside the top 100. This gives some validation to the claims that Microsoft undervalued the brand with the $32 share price bid earlier this month. Whether this does point to a $40 share price remains to be seen.
