Google Sin of Lust continued…
February 27th, 2008 by Click Consult
Last week I came across an article which has inspired me to write this one (can be obtained on blogspot.com).
I suppose it's hard to disagree with the majority of the content- Google does have outstanding value for “free stuff” & its quality:
1. Google Maps is a fantastic opportunity to visit places where you no longer belong. I know many people who are completely incompetent with the internet, but still absolutely fascinated searching for places of birth or childhood.
2. YouTube, in some aspects, is alike Facebook with much wider reach – you can share your hobbies, opinions, tastes; or find ideas and news that you can’t find anywhere else. For many people it maybe a nostalgic search for things we once have loved, for others, new things to discover.
3. Google’s G-mail is great (almost as good as Yahoo email) and it gives you flexibility of signing into other Google applications using your e-mail logins, which is convenient as you don’t have to remember hundreds of passwords.
4. Google home page has something for everyone, it can be a consolidation page for political & economic news, games, hobbies & interests. I find it great for both kids and adults.
5. Google analytics is free & does provide some bits & pieces of relevant information. The only thing that may upset many Google clients is a freshly released Ulrich Google Analytics which will cost companies $3000 that can be viewed as a first step to undermining Google’s “for free” policy.
6. Google’s natural search is much better than natural listings on Yahoo & MSN, it’s more relevant & better filtered.
We could say that Google tries to dominate the world, and it is probably true, but it’s doing it so elegantly.
And what about MS? I can’t disagree with the author either. I think it should concentrate more on TQC (Total Quality Control) than TWC (Total World Control):
1. Vista has very nice new options but why old options stopped working?
2. The same in regards to X-Box 360.
3. MSN e-mail is miles behind Yahoo’s email & G- mail.
4. MSN PPC is much harder to use and optimise.
Maybe to reinvent the wheel is not always a good idea!
