Get Tracking Your PPC Campaigns
February 11th, 2010 by Laura
One of the top advantages to using pay per click rather than the more traditional methods of advertising like direct mail or TV advertising is the transparency of its success. You can easily track and monitor your PPC campaigns via a range of metrics so that you can be sure you are getting return on investment. For this reason you must set up reports to track conversions correctly. Only then can you fully reap the benefits.
To set up conversion tracking code
When setting up conversion tracking code the simplest method is to use the Google wizard. This will generate code for you that will be inserted into the last page of the conversion that you are seeking. If you decide to track sales as your conversion, then it would be usual to insert code at the confirmation, receipt or thank you page. However you must also remember to tag the tracked conversion correctly. If you have elected to track both sales and emails sent then you must ensure that the type of conversion is tagged when you generate the conversion code.
Link Analytics to AdWords
Once you have set up your AdWords account and the Analytics account correctly you must make sure that the two are linked together. This will allow all the traffic from AdWords to be tagged properly in Analytics. This will allow you to track and differentiate separate campaigns, keywords and Ad groups.
