Is the Search Engine you use really your own decision?
July 9th, 2008 by Geoff
News that Hewlett Packard has struck a deal with Microsoft to install the MSN Live Search Toolbar as a default setting on all new computers shipped with Internet Explorer is particularly interesting to those within the Pay Per Click industry.
How many of you would click to use Google when a toolbar letting you search directly is already in place in every browser window you open?
Even though the deal has only been made for HP computers sold in the USA the fact that users will now have a direct link to MSN Search in their browser is sure to increase use of the search engine and will provide more opportunity for Pay Per Click Campaign Managers to optimise accounts for their clients. I say that someone who already runs a successful campaign in the USA using MSN Live Search will be licking their lips at the prospect of the increased traffic through the engine.
Will this have an effect on Pay Per Click marketing in Europe though? Well HP previously sold their new computers in the USA with the Yahoo Toolbar installed and Microsoft have snatched that bit of business away which means that Yahoo's current deal with HP in Europe is sure to be under threat as well. Dell’s deal with Google to provide a similar service remains in place.
With HP reported to be the biggest provider of new computers in the world, the European and specifically UK, PPC market could potentially be about to change dramatically. The key will be to take advantage of it from the start as those of us running campaigns in the USA are preparing for now.
