There was a certain protocol for press releases in the old days. A business would have an event or crisis, a PR company would be hired, and a press release would be carefully worded. Once composed, it would be formatted to the standard press release format, printed out and faxed to everyone on the PR company’s news list. The news agencies would find a stack of press releases in the fax machine, flick through, pick two or three, and produce articles from them. It was much like a production line.
