Press releases must be optimised

September 2nd, 2009 by

For a press release to show up in the SERPs it must be optimised with a master’s touch. Online press releases should be short and to the point, so stuffing keywords in to help get it on the search results pages is a very bad idea. A talented SEO writer has the skills to fully optimise a press release that does not look as if it has been optimised for the search engines.

This not only means that the proper keywords must be selected. The correct placing of those keywords is vital and it should be inserted in the title and headline of the press release. Optimisation is possible without it looking blatant and the text will read fluently.

Tips and tricks

Make sure that the product name is used more than once and place emphasis on it. You can replace common pronouns with your key phrase, it looks natural and works for optimisation. Remember that a well optimised press release will need to be followed up with regular quality press releases. Just because the search engine bots picked up the first one does not mean it will keep momentum.

SE bots want fresh information and if they crawl your press release again and find nothing fresh, they will be slower to make another pass. It is very important to choose your PR distribution network carefully. Whether you choose a paid or free PR distribution network, make doubly sure they do not use spam techniques. If they do, your press release and your optimisation efforts are in vain.
