Before you write that online press release

August 19th, 2009 by

Online marketing is extremely competitive; to be successful you have to keep ahead of the pack and utilise all means to bring brand visibility. Press releases are the most cost effective way to focus attention on your business. Unfortunately too many people miss the target.

Yes, people are aware that press releases must be well written and kept short and very focussed. They abide by the rules of keeping it real and authentic and to get it out in the correct timeframe for it to make an impact. Yet, a huge percentage of press releases fall flat. The reason for this is because they do not do their ‘homework’. They do not create the right framework for the press release and they don't take advantage of potential SEO benefits.

Ask these questions

Who exactly is your target audience that you wish to aim this online press release at and what is the message that you want to put across to that target audience. The next to establish is whether the information in your press release will be newsworthy information with great impact. Or whether it is just a very everyday offer.

Then, what concrete data do you have that will validate and support the information in the press release. Are you aware of certain areas and things that should be avoided in the press release that could be a drawback. This is very important to know.

What do you hope to achieve with this online press release; do you want to give information or does it or is it business related strictly, or a combination of both. Once you have answered all these questions the final thing to do is to decide what tone you want to set. Then you are ready to write a great press release that will be attention catching and bring you the increase in appropriate traffic and backlinks that you want.
