Press Release Glossary Terms: Press Release Distribution

October 28th, 2008 by

Press release distribution is the act of distributing press releases to online press release directories in the hope that they will publish and distribute the release. Some websites offer a press release distribution service that will submit your press release to a large number of online directories, thereby increasing the exposure that your piece gains. Fortunately, while there are some minor differences, the majority of directories have similar format requirements and submission guidelines to follow when submitting a piece making these distribution services viable.

Press release distribution can be conducted as regularly or as infrequently as you like but you should always ensure that a press release deserves to be written. The content needs to be high quality to ensure that the majority of directories accept it and to further ensure that other publishers, journalists and websites will be willing to use the press release when compiling their own articles or publishing to their own websites.

Press release distribution can also be used to help build links for an SEO campaign because many directories allow the use of proper hyperlinked text links with the inclusion of your keywords in the anchor text of the link. This link should be included in the final contact paragraph of the press release but by submitting to a good range of directories it can mean a number of links from the directories themselves as well as from other websites that publish the releases.
