Press Release Glossary Terms: Press Release Directory

An online press release directory is a collection of press releases that have been written and submitted by website owners, marketers, and new media journalists. It is a repository for press releases that are related to current, topical events as well as those that concentrate more closely on the goings on within organisations and companies and each press release directory will usually have its own style preferences and its own submission terms and guidelines.

A good online press release directory may be used by many other websites, including news syndication websites like Google News and Yahoo News. These websites typically generate a lot of traffic and so being included in their syndicated news feeds can help to generate a lot of traffic to a website – this is what makes an online press release such an appealing form of getting your message across to readers. While not all press release directories are used by all major sites, it can pay to submit to a good selection of directories in the hope of being included in one or more major sites.

Always check the guidelines for a press release directory before submitting because a press release that fails to meet these directives will not usually be published on the site and will instead be refused. It is uncommon for a press release directory to offer precise details of why a submission has been refused but you will have the opportunity to submit it again once you have corrected any errors.
