The who, what, where and why for press releases

A press release is one of your most powerful publicity tools available to you but that power has been bumped up by the internet. An online press release can be far more powerful in gaining good publicity than its printed counterpart.

This is because online press releases transgress all nationalities, races, age groups and country borders. In essence, an online press release is your ticket to the most widespread publicity you can get. But before you dive in blindly, there are a few things that you need to know and consider before writing anything.

Be not blind

You need to seriously take into consideration the target audience you want your press release to be relevant to. You need to write in a style that suites your target press release market and make your language and jargon applicable to them and not anyone else. What message do you want to get across to your readers?

Keep in mind that you do not want your press release to sound like an advertisement, keep it interesting and newsworthy. Your press release needs some serious support as well as value. Nobody wants to read something that does not offer them a reason to read it.

You need to consider the tone of your writing; whether to make it satirical, professional, personal or in the style of the man next door. Keep yourself updated with what people want from an online press release and what they hate about it.

Lastly you also need to carefully think about whether you want to simply broadcast information. Or whether you want to grow your business. Take all of this into account before typing a single word.
