Banner Ads As Part Of An Internet Marketing Strategy
December 23rd, 2008 by Geoff
Banner ads are a form of Internet marketing that integrates banners into a web page. These banners are usually in the form of images such as JPEG, GIF and PNG or multimedia components such as Java and Flash that include animation, sound and video in the ad.
Banners are used to attract web traffic to the advertiser's website. Depending on the agreement which webmasters have agreed upon, banner ads could be costly or free.
In general, banner ads are not the preferred Internet marketing method, however it has been found to be useful to generate web traffic. This is especially true for sectors that focus on SEO, PPC and other areas of marketing.
How to use banner ads
Banners are permitted to be displayed on other websites through various negotiations. The cheapest way is through putting your banner on someone else's site in exchange of theirs being on yours.
Another way is by forming strong ties with other webmasters to pay them for putting up your ad. Finally, you may post your banner on a various publisher sites through the use of banner networks (you will still need to pay them).
When designing banners some things must be kept in mind to effectively convey your message and attract visitors. This includes the use of good and attractive graphics (more attractive the better), giving clear messages as to what you are providing and focusing on the benefits of your products.
Finally, banner position is important thus placement should be at a place on the web page where maximum exposure will be obtained. This will accelerate click generation and increase web traffic.
