Acquiring Targeted Visitors From Search Engines

August 21st, 2008 by

Many Internet users rely on search engines when trying to find information relating to a particular topic. By entering a search term and clicking search we put our faith in the search engine of our choice that it will produce a list of informative and useful websites. They invariably manage this by providing pages that are filled with relevant content and have a large number of relevant inbound links.

Once a searcher clicks the link to visit a page they are presented with information that is relevant to the search they conducted. This means that they are highly targeted towards the topic of that page. With good on page conversion optimisation this should mean a high conversion rate and activity rate from search engine visitors.

When the search engine results are displayed they include a page title, description, and site title. The searcher is then able to use this information in a bid to discern the most relevant result and click to visit that page. This means that search engine visitors are not only looking for the topic of information that your web page provides but they have viewed a brief description of what you are offering and remain interested.

Search engine traffic is sometimes referred to as being double opt in traffic because searchers first look for a particular keyword and then read the details about a page, both before they commit to visiting. Once a search engine visitor arrives on your page they area already well targeted and susceptible to your marketing message.
