Internet Marketing: Points To Remember
Internet marketing can have disadvantages in that it requires the use of the newest and most up to date technology to keep ahead which can affect end users who have low speed internet connections. If your site is very large, complicated and all the bells and whistels, it may stop or prevent people from connecting to your site and thus prevent any potential business.
Another limitation may actually be your own service offerings. If you offer a return policy on your product or pick up services, this can severly limit your ability to market your product online. You may also find what are called ‘barriers to entry’. What this means is that you don’t have the abilities to measure the impact your product will have online mainly due to a lack of inhouse capabilites or the inability to convince senior management of the advantages of online marketing.
Security and privacy issues are a serious disadvantage to online marketing and affect not only yourself, but your customers too. Your customers may not trust you enough to expose their information because they either dont trust, or don’t understand encryption policies.
Another cause for concern is that it is possible for a customer’s private and financial information to be given away, or even sold. Even though there are methods of opting out or having their details removed from your database, the perception remains and this is a ver large disadvantage to any online marketing campaign. On top of this, customers are sometimes not able to control the flow of information between companies. Perhaps one of the largest disadvantages to online marketing is that customers may not trust they will indeed receive what they purchase.
