Obtaining personal information from your email marketing subscribers will help you in many ways. Requesting a person’s name will help you to personalise your emails and help your subscriber to feel special. Personal details will also assist when targeting your customers with different emails. The more information you have about an email marketing subscriber, the easier it is to send emails that will be of interest.
Obtaining that personal information isn’t always easy as people are reluctant to give personal details to a marketer that they don’t know and are wary of. After a certain length of time your subscribers will be more likely to impart personal information but it can be difficult at the initial sign up or in the period just after.
Initially it is wise to ask for the minimum information such as a Christian name and email address. This will allow you to personalise the email with a name in the initial stages. You will be able to obtain other information slowly by giving a reason for wanting to know more about your subscriber. For instance, you could ask for an address so that you can send a physical item such as a book or Compact Disc through the post.
Surveys are a great way to gain information for web marketing but if you ask for too much detail you will end up with fake information or no responses at all.
