What’s Your Point?

November 4th, 2008 by

Effective email marketing not only requires a list of targeted email recipients but the sending of well written, high quality and targeted emails. Failing in any of these points can lead to a poor performance in your email marketing campaign and can lead to a negative return on investment or a financial loss for your advertising efforts. One factor to consider is that you have identified the main point of your email to yourself – something that a surprisingly large number of email marketing campaigns fail to do.

Every email must have a point. Rambling and unnecessary emails will do nothing but alienate your list members against you and cause many of them to request they be removed from your list. Before you even send a test run or start to write the email, ensure that the point of the email is clear in your own mind and once you do start writing identify your intention early on, using the rest of the email to further outline your point.

The subject of the email is a good place to start with identifying your intention. Email marketing messages need to be well structured as well as very appealing to recipients and even the most effective of products or services will suffer at the hands of a poorly constructed email marketing message. If in doubt then you should consider having somebody else write the email for you, which also leaves you with the chance to concentrate your efforts on other key areas of your online business.
