What To Avoid In Your Email Marketing Messages
Email marketing requires that you build a level of trust between you and your visitors. The emails that you send should convey these emotions while remaining short and effective. As such, and in order to avoid penalties that some email software and readers apply to incoming email, there are certain factors that you should avoid.
High risk keywords are regularly blacklisted by webmail services and also by email software and anti spam software. These spam keywords are blacklisted for the simple reason that emails containing them are more often than not found to be spam emails. Anything adult or gambling related could be considered a high risk keyword and should be avoided.
Emails sent as part of an email marketing campaign should not attempt to directly and immediately sell a product or service. The relevant pages of a website will perform this task, and that's why they exist. Rather than selling a product, email marketing should pre-sell it, identify a problem that readers are likely to face and then direct those readers to your site to find the answer. Avoid the over use of sales hype.
Poor formatting is an instant turn off for many readers. While text talk and poor grammar are acceptable in personal emails and personal communications, readers do not want to see it when reading your email marketing campaign emails. Use spell checker, double and triple check the content of an email before you send it and, if you're still in doubt ask somebody else to read it over before clicking send.
