Using High Impact Subject Lines In Email Marketing
September 10th, 2008 by Nick
In email marketing, the subject line of an email is the introduction, the summary, and the hook all rolled into one. It needs to drive recipients into opening the email and reading the remainder of your sales letter. You can look on it as being the pre-sell for the rest of the email because that's essentially what it needs to be doing. Using high impact subject lines will help improve conversion rates and decrease bounce rates.
Subject lines can improve your email marketing campaign by increasing open rates, conversion rates, new customer rates, and brand awareness. Set out the goals of your email marketing before you begin writing and then consider your recipients and what will persuade them to open and read an email on a particular topic.
Shorter subject lines have proven to be the most effective in many cases (there are always exceptions as well as general rules in marketing). The very first word of the subject needs to be a powerful word and should start to convey a powerful message.
By all means be intelligent, identify a problem that readers face and intimate that a solution to that problem doesn't just exist but can be found in the email. Don't get carried away with over cryptic subjects that are too complex for the average person to decipher in an instant. Your subject line may be competing with many others to grab the attention of readers and if your message isn't instantly identifiable it only takes a click to delete it.
