Outline Your Email Marketing Goals Early
November 5th, 2008 by Nick
Most aspects of running an online business or marketing an existing business online require that you set out your goals early on in the process. By clearly identifying your goals it offers several benefits. You can determine measurable benchmark figures that allow you to determine whether email marketing or any other efforts have been successful and it also gives you a much clearer picture of what needs doing and how you will achieve your goals.
Common email marketing goals are to make sales and generate profits. However, your email marketing goals might be slightly different. Email marketing can be used to increase brand awareness, drive new traffic to a website, or generate partners for your business. In fact, each email marketing message may have slightly different goals because as your website evolves it inevitably places new demands on you and your marketing techniques. Whatever your email marketing goals are, though, you should identify them as early as possible.
Having identified your goals and targets you can then consider how they would be best achieved. Consider the type of email marketing message you will send and also pay a lot of care to your list of email addresses. If your goal is to drive more traffic to your website, for example, then you will need to find a list to buy or rent that includes people that have not yet visited your website. Alternatively, if your goal is to increase the number of conversions you receive from your existing traffic levels then you can create your own email marketing lead list from your own site.
