Obtaining A List For Your Email Marketing Campaign

Posted in Email Marketing by Click Consult on 21st of August, 2008

There are many ways one can build an email list to use in conjunction with an email marketing campaign. As well as building your own using capture forms and squeeze pages, it's possible to buy or rent lists that have been generated by others. This can prove a good way to supplement an existing list or kick start your own.

Capture forms and squeeze pages have been employed by email marketers for years. They typically offer something for free, in exchange for a name and email address. These same forms also include an opt-in tick box providing the visitor with the opportunity to sign up and receive emails and marketing message from you in the future.

Offering newsletters, free samples, or free ebooks are some of the more common methods of gathering email addresses. Some free registration sites also use the information they collect towards this end. All email leads collected in this way need to be given the option to opt in or refuse when on the detail submission screen.

Buying or renting a list is a good way to pad out a small list or to start your own. Care does need to be taken to ensure that the list builder has taken the appropriate steps in securing details of individuals that have opted in to receive communication. A failure to do this can lead to your emails being directly routed to spam folders on everybody's machine – impacting the daily running of your business as well as any future email marketing campaigns.
