• Illicit email marketing campaigns predate legitimate campaigns and as a result email marketers are having a hard time proving themselves as genuine businesses
• The sheer volume of spam email has promoted spam filters which frequently catch and spit out legitimate commercial messages
• It is a fact that it is difficult for observers to distinguish between legitimate email marketing campaigns and spam campaigns as spammers are always looking for new ways to pass themselves off as legitimate operators.
