Receiving bulk emails using Opt-in
There are legitimate reasons for wanting to receive bulk emails, especially when they take the form of newsletters and other advertising materials. But, without getting permission first, they might be considered spam, or unsolicited bulk emails. Permission is critical in email marketing.
Common forms of opt-in emails
The first is unconfirmed opt-in. This is where if a new subscriber gives their address out but nobody takes any further steps to confirm if this is actually theirs or not. This can result in the email being considered spam because it may be sent to someone else due to perhaps a typing error in the address for instance. It also leaves the door open to malicious subscriptions and spammers forging email addresses without the owner being aware that they have subscribed to the mailing list.
Confirmed opt-in on the other hand is when a confirmation email is sent to the new subscriber requesting that they confirm whether or not is them. This ensures that nobody can subscribe out of malice or in error. This can also be referred to a closed loop opt-in and some marketers refer to closed loop opt-in as double opt-in.
Double opt-in requires involves sending an email to a new subscriber requiring that they reply to the email in order to be added to the mailing list. However, even spammers have co-opted this which has caused a decline in its value.
Opt-out is does not give people the option to be put onto the list, they are automatically added, but they do have the option to be taken out should the wish to. Putting your email marketing campaign into the safe hands of a good internet marketing company can take the hassle out of your campaign and you can watch the rewards come in.
