Is your own website essential?
It is not an illogical question for an affiliate marketer to ask whether it is necessary to have an own website, as affiliate marketing means you do not own the products. The answer is both yes and no. You can operate as an affiliate marketer without your own website.
You can promote other people’s products with affiliate marketing. You can do that by placing a link on forums, blogs and through article marketing and other off-site methods. But, on the other hand, having your own website has great benefits for your affiliate marketing efforts. If you do not have a website, it is not the end of the world. It simply means that you do not have any way to generate future sales through yourself.
Work smart
The prospective customer follows the link directly to the web page of the product owner. Once they have that and bookmark it, why should they need you at all? In reality, this means that without a website, each and every sale you make is a first sale. This means you work much harder and spend much more time doing this than you would have to for return clients.
With your own website or blog, you can get people to subscribe to product updates through opt-in. You can add new products on an ongoing basis that will attract more clients. They will also see what other products you promote that can lead to further sales.
With your own domain you have far greater scope to bring in revenue than if you don’t. Keeping to having to make ‘first sales’ every time is not working smart. You expend all your energies on doing this and end up not having time to find more products to promote. The idea is to work smarter and not harder.
