I completely agree with your point and I think affiliate conversions are very useful for affiliate business. It is true that you get a monthly sale total from your sponsor and their tracking system. And it will tell you exactly how many clicks came through to their site from advertising.
I think you need to check the sales conversions, watch the traffic and money being spent on your campaigns and deeper analysis is necessary for each and every keyword. It is very important which keywords are profitable for sales. And you can get random traffic for your business without consuming time.
I do not completely agree with your view that to improve your sales you need to use affiliate conversion. I think if your products are good and reachable then your sale will go for higher position and in some ways I accept this thing that affiliate conversion helps you to improve your sale.
