Affiliate marketing is often seen as complicated when in fact, it is quite a simple concept. A websites displaying advertisements, which refer transactions, earn commission and that is how Affiliate marketing works.

It is an internet-based marketing tool whereby affiliates are rewarded for all visitors to the other site. An affiliate could be described as a content site but today affiliate marketing also involves the use of tools such as data feeds, SEO and pay per click search engines.

Affiliate marketing is not a get rich scheme and requires much determination as well as patience to ensure successful results. Deciding to use an affiliate-marketing program to generate commission might take a lot of consideration. Some websites will pay per scale, per click, per lead or sign up and others might combine all models. This is a great way to make money so choose a form that best suites you.

How Affiliate Marketing Began?

It has been claimed that Amazon created affiliate marketing but this is not entirely true. Although they had formed the first affiliate program in 1996, it was much smaller and there were other affiliate plans in place before the Amazon program. The myth was that Affiliate marketing began when Amazon had paid commission to a woman for selling books for them. Website, CDNow was however said to have created a primitive affiliate-marketing program in 1994.

Although Amazon did not originally create this program, they are one of the top retail websites, together with Dell.com, Yahoo.com and Apple.com that successfully use affiliate marketing.
