Affiliate Programs And Search Engine Spam
December 22nd, 2008 by Nick
So what exactly is search engine spam? Search engine spam is inferior websites who are using spam techniques such as hiding links, cloaking, and keyword stuffing to disguise content, and trick their way onto the main results pages of search engines.
These are deceptive practices that the major search engines such as Google do not approve of. Google as well as the other major search engines such as Yahoo and MSN have put together their own list of guidelines for what content they do not approve of. This has been put in place to combat Search engine spam.
Confusing Search Engine Spam As Affiliate Programs
Google does not accept spam such as hidden text or hidden links. They also do not accept multiple page or domains with duplicate content. Google does not remove spam from their search engine, but has spam detecting software that tries to eliminate these bad practices.
Yahoo also rejects text hidden from the user, as well as pages built just for search engines. They also do not like pages that have pop-ups interfering with the user’s experience. Most people do not know the difference between search engine spam and affiliate programs. The reason for this is that people think receiving emails from affiliate marketers about products and services is spam.
However if you harass customers by bombarding them constantly with emails then they will regard it as spam. Remember affiliate marketing is promoting products and services for a particular company, where you get paid if a sale is made through your link (URL). Whereas spam is inappropriate content not related to the actual query, just masking itself off as if it were.
