Ensuring Your Email Marketing Is Targeted

Email marketing requires that you send marketing email communication to list members, often on a fairly regular basis. Before you do so, you should ensure that the list you email is targeted because the more targeted the list members the more likely your email marketing campaign will be a success. Targeted email marketing list members can be gained either through your own website or online presence or through the buying or renting of a qualified list.

Building your own list should, realistically, be your ultimate goal because once you have traffic to your website it will represent the most affordable and scalable method of email marketing. Continuously buying and rationalising email marketing lists can prove expensive while not generating the best results. Building your own list also allows you greater control over how targeted and, therefore, how reactive your list members will be.

Buying and renting email marketing lists can help to give your marketing campaign a real boost but it does require some care in choosing a list provider. Always try to ascertain how and where the list was built and be absolutely certain that list members gave their permission to be contacted by a third party (in this case, you). Failing to do this can lead to serious problems in the long run. All list members should have shown an interest in the topic, product, or service that you will be contacting them about so also ensure that they either meet your target demographic or have come from a source that offers this level of targeting.
