Flash design is becoming more and more popular with web designers, website owners, and the general online public. Typically it offers a more aesthetically appealing look because there are very few restrictions about the final look and feel of a website when it is designed using Flash. However, there are some accessibility and usability issues that need to be addressed with any Flash website.
To a large extent, search engines have become much more adept at the crawling, indexing, and ranking of Flash based sites but the fact is that they are not yet as advanced in this area as they are in dealing with HTML and CSS based sites. This is because a lot of the content on Flash site is basically image based it's very difficult for spiders to determine the topic and keywords for a Flash page.
When coding a site using any development platform, it's vital to consider usability. Every visitor to a website should be able to open pages, view the content, and navigate around the site. What's more they should be able to do it quickly and painlessly without extensive delays or difficulties in the process. Standards compliant development is an absolute necessity when designing in Flash or any other authoring language.
Flash websites can offer a greater visual design than virtually any other form of web design but aesthetic appeal shouldn't and doesn't have to come at the cost of usability or accessibility. Using standards compliant code will ensure that all visitors to your site are able to open pages, navigate to other pages, and view all the content while search engines will also be able to crawl and index pages.
